Joy is such a fragile thing,
No sooner lands than it takes wing.
Lighter than breathless clouds it floats;
Singing on silent air its notes.
Of all the gifts, I’d hope to share
My finding joy in blank despair.
Tho depression’s everywhere,
Hope has the power to cleanse the air.
High on the topmost branch a bird
Chants forth its truth, and every trill
Has meaning for me like a word,
Which leaves me feeling a thrill.
I’d be a fool and sadly naive
If I didn’t know material reality;
Yet I was never deceived
By the shiny façade of duality:
For in everyone a choice
Exists, whether to lend a voice
To what creates illusion
And thereby feeds confusion,
Or whether to hear the notes above –
The higher octave sounding love.
This is what nourishes the soul
And gives us joy to make us whole.
The power of nature abounds in trees;
Each year’s a message for all to see:
First the green promises of spring,
Then flowering love in everything.
Above all it shows that life’s not a toy
To be played for a day and then thrown away;
The only way to find true joy
Is to invite it in to stay.
